OKLAHOMA CITY – State Representative Mike Sanders (R-Kingfisher) issued the following statement upon learning of charges filed against Kingfisher County Department of Human Services Director Steve Torres in Garfield County. Torres was charged Tuesday with driving under the influence of alcohol and a controlled substance. He was arrested Dec. 7.
“Director Torres is of course innocent until proven guilty, but if these charges have merit, he should resign. If true, his actions are a disgrace and come on top of questions concerning how the DHS offices throughout the state are conducting themselves. The Department of Human Services have simply burned through too many excuses. Individuals with such great authority over the lives of children and other vulnerable citizens must be held to the highest standard. If Torres is guilty of these charges, I want to see either a resignation or a firing.”
