Lawmakers to hold Town Hall Meetings on State Questions

OKLAHOMA CITY –State Sen. Bryce Marlatt, R-Woodward, Rep. Mike Sanders, R-Kingfisher, and Rep. Gus Blackwell, R-Lavern, are inviting local residents to a series of town hall meetings to learn more about the six State Questions voters will be asked to decide in the upcoming general election in November. Oklahomans will be asked to determine issues ranging from property tax caps to the governor’s role in the pardon and parole process along with four other issues that will appear on the ballot.

“State Questions can sometimes be complex and a little confusing, even if you follow issues at the State Capitol very closely,” Marlatt said. “We thought it would be a good idea to present information on these proposals so that citizens would have the opportunity to make an informed decision in November.”

The lawmakers will host three town hall meetings on Wednesday, October 24 beginning in Seiling at the City Hall Foyer from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. The next forum will be in Shattuck from 12:30 p.m. until 1:30 p.m. in the Chamber Hall, followed by a meeting in Laverne from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. On Thursday, October 25, there will be a meeting from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. at PTCI in Boise City. From there the lawmakers travel to Guyman for a forum from 11:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. in the PTCI Building South, then at Beaver from 2:00 p.m. through 3:00 p.m. at the Farm Bureau.

“Even though these state questions can appear complex, it is important for citizens to learn everything they can about them because they deal with important issues,” Sanders said. “These informal discussions will enable people to break the questions down and learn more about them so they’ll know what they’re being asked to decide in November.”
Blackwell also urged everyone who can to attend one of the town hall meetings.
“Voting is not just a right we have as citizens—it’s a responsibility,” Blackwell said. “But I also know it’s frustrating if you aren’t familiar with the topic or have any information one way or the other. These forums will help you be better prepared to play your part in deciding important policy issues for our state.”
