Christmas Serves as a Reminder

By State Rep. Mike Sanders

The special emphasis that Christmas traditions place on family and on the teachings of Christ renews our spirits and gives us strength after the many trials and tribulations we endure throughout the year. Families are struggling and tightening their belts these days, but their resolve to have a warm, bright Christmas is as strong as ever.

The military men and women who protect our liberties and provide for our safety must regularly forgo the comforts of this holiday season. I would like to thank them for the sacrifices they make on our behalf. Firefighters, emergency responders and members of law enforcement regularly work on Christmas to ensure the safety of their communities and I would also thank them. Finally, I would like to thank our farmers and ranchers for the food they provide and our teachers for the many hours of grading and classroom preparation they endure to better our children.

I will share this Christmas with my wife, Nellie, sons Davis and Walker, and our larger extended family. It is truly a blessing to spend the coldest holiday of the year surrounded by a warm and loving family. I plan to use this holiday to recharge my batteries and strengthen my resolve to improve state government on behalf of the constituents who have kindly elected me time and time again to represent them at our state Capitol. I am honored and humbled by your trust.

Christmas is an opportunity to let go of the details of our lives and focus on those values and people we hold most dear. I wish everyone a joyous Christmas and a wonderful New Year. As always, I would love to hear from you. I can be reached at the Capitol at (405) 557-7407.
