Bill Would Extend Sales Tax Exemption to American Legion

OKLAHOMA CITY – State Rep. Mike Sanders said today that the American Legion deserves to be among the organizations that receive a sales tax exemption in Oklahoma.

“The American Legion is one of the most charitable and cornerstone community organizations we have here in Oklahoma,” said Sanders, R-Kingfisher. “I think it is simply oversight that has kept them from being among those listed for a sales tax exemption. I have filed legislation in order to include them.”

House Bill 3085 would exempt sales of tangible personal property or services to the American Legion, whether the purchase is made by the entity chartered by the United States Congress or is an entity organized under the laws of this or another state pursuant to the authority of the national American Legion organization.

“Nonprofit organizations such as the American Legion make our communities stronger and it is important to recognize their work and not get in the way of it,” Sanders said.
